Before you send a memory.
This is a plain-language operational notice for a small independent project. It does not claim institutional archive status, legal review, or the ability to erase material from the wider internet.
The card maker is local.
Text entered into the memory-card maker is rendered in your browser. The card script does not upload the words, place, or credit you type. The page may send ordinary privacy-preserving page and named interaction events to the site analytics provider, but those events do not contain your card text.
Email is a separate choice.
If you email a proposed contribution, the project receives the sender address, display name, message, attachments, and ordinary email headers. Your and the project’s email providers process that material under their own policies. Do not send a wallet key, government identifier, home address, private financial position, medical information, or a third person’s sensitive information.
The project uses a proposal to evaluate historical relevance, ask clarifying questions, document your preferences, and—only after a separate exact approval—publish the excerpt and credit you approve. It does not sell submission data or use a contribution to target financial promotion.
Nothing is public by default.
A proposal is not publication permission. Before publication, you receive the exact excerpt, credit, evidence label, intended surfaces, incentive disclosure if any, and any material edit. Silence is not permission. Contributors must be 18 or older.
You keep your rights in your original words and media. Any permission is limited to the exact uses you approve. A book, advertisement, translation, merchandise use, material edit, or new distribution surface requires specific permission unless it was already listed in the approval record.
Retention and access.
- Access is limited to the project operator and a named editor or service provider who needs the material for the approved purpose.
- A proposal that is declined, withdrawn before publication, or receives no further reply is scheduled for deletion from active project working records within 90 days of the decision or last contact.
- An approval record and the approved publication material are kept while the contribution is public. The record may be retained for 12 months after removal to document the request and response.
- Email-provider backups, recipient devices, and security logs may roll off on provider schedules the project does not control. The project will not claim those copies disappeared instantly.
Correction, withdrawal, and the public-copy limit.
You can ask to see the active contribution record, correct your credit or approved excerpt, withdraw permission, or request deletion of unpublished material. The target response time is 14 days. The project can remove or correct material on surfaces it controls; it cannot reliably recall screenshots, downloads, quotations, reposts, caches, citations, or copies held by independent web archives.
Who is responsible?
The operator of The Buy Button project is the responsible project publisher for this intake. The project has not represented itself as a university, museum, public archive, registered broker, or independent newsroom. Method references.
This process was informed by the Oral History Association’s consent and preservation guidance and the ICO’s transparency checklist. The project deliberately calls this a first-person memory project until it has the interviewing, accession, preservation, and institutional stewardship expected of a formal oral-history program.
